General Info:

  • Fun Fact: The confetti dropped in Times Square for New Year’s Day has thousands of people’s wishes written on them. In 2015, “wishfetti” became part of the tradition as people write their wishes for the new year and submit them to the Wish Wall in Times Square or online. Those wishes are turned into confetti that falls over the crowd at midnight

  • U.S. Federal Reserve releases the minutes from its December monetary policy meeting
  • U.S. Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) data for November
  • U.S. light vehicle sales for December
  • U.S. ISM Manufacturing PMI data for December
  • PDC World Darts Championship final in London – if you want to get fired up, go to YouTube and check out a video titled “Michael Smith Hits a Nine-Darter in a World Championship Final”


Thursday 01/04:

  • National Trivia Day
  • Steven Point, Wisconsin, holds the largest current trivia contest at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's college radio station WWSP 90FM. Since 1969, the contest has been held each year in spring. The contest runs for 54 consecutive hours, and will take place from April 12th-14th this year
  • U.S. initial jobless claims and continuing claims data
  • S&P Global Services PMI data for the U.S., Eurozone, U.K., Germany, France, and Japan
  • China Caixin Services PMI data for December
  • The United Nations releases its world economic situation and prospects report 2024


Friday 01/05:

  • U.S. employment report for December, which is expected to show 170,000 new jobs added
  • The unemployment rate is expected to move up from 3.7% to 3.8%, the labor force participation rate is expected to remain steady at 62.8%, and average hourly earnings are expected to have increased 0.3% month-over-month and 3.9% year-over-year
  • U.S. ISM Services PMI data for December
  • Eurozone consumer price index (CPI) for December and producer price index (PPI) for November
