General Info:

  • The April reading of the U.S. consumer price index (CPI) was broadly in-line with economist expectations
  • CPI rose 0.4% month-over-month, and the year-over-year figure slowed from 5.0% to 4.9%
  • Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, rose 0.4% month-over-month, and the year-over-year figure slowed from 5.6% to 5.5%
  • Fun Fact: Australia is wider than the moon. The moon is 3,475 kilometers in diameter, while Australia’s diameter from east to west is nearly 4,000 kilometers


Monday 05/15:

  • National Chocolate Chip Day
  • In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield added cut-up chunks of a semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar to her cookie recipe at the Toll House Inn
  • In 1939, she signed an agreement with Nestle to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate
  • In 1941, Nestle and its competitors started selling chocolate chips
  • The Nestle brand Toll House cookies were named for the Inn
  • U.S. cross-border investment

  • The European Commission releases its spring economic forecasts
